Understanding Our Inherent Biases

Our subconscious biases influence us more than we know. This workshop provides an interactive exploration of the City's new Implicit Bias Training, now required for every NC board member. Those attending this session will be introduced to the training content, including examples of implicit biases that we likely all possess. This will be followed by discussion of biases we’ve recently learned about ourselves or are common in our communities.

NOTE: If you have been invited by the City already to take the training and you have completed it, please come join the discussion from 1:35 pm to 2:20 pm to add your perspective!

Speakers:

The Honorable Joy Atkinson, member, Board of Neighborhood Commissioners
Brenda Shockley, LA Deputy Mayor of Economic Opportunity & Chief Equity Officer
Malaika Billups, LA Personnel Department, Office of Workplace Equity
Gibson Nyambura, Department of Neighborhood Empowerment
Joumana Silyan-Saba, LA Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department
